Tulsa Men's Soccer Team Ties Marshall, 1-1
Oct. 26, 2013
Huntington, W.Va. - -
The Tulsa men's soccer team tied Marshall, 1-1, on Saturday night at the Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex in Huntington, W.Va. TU moved to 7-5-3 on the season and 2-3-2 in Conference USA, while Marshall moved to 2-8-6 overall and 0-3-3 in the league.
"I am certainly proud of the guys and the way they played," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "We created a lot of chances, including six in overtime, and the guys never gave up. We came on this road trip and got two ties, but we didn't lose. We will eventually get some shots to go in. Marshall played hard and used their physical size to their advantage, but Tony and Quinton did a good job at center back against a team that puts the ball in the box a lot."
Quinton Duncan put the Golden Hurricane on the board at the 84:14 mark off an assist from Omar Mata, but a minute later Zach Hunter evened the score and forced overtime. Neither team found the back of the net in either overtime period to end the game in a tie.
Tulsa was led by Cristian Mata and Bryce Follensbee with four shots, while Tony Rocha and Akeil Barrett added three attempts, and Omar and Cameron Drackett both had two shots. Cody Mumma played all 110 minutes in goal and earned three saves.
TU had a 21-11 lead in shots, including a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal, and a 9-4 lead in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, Nov. 3rd against FIU. Game time is set for 4:00 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
