Cumings and Follensbee Lead Tulsa to 2-0 Win Over FIU
Nov. 3, 2013
Tulsa, Oklahoma -
Kyle Cumings and Bryce Follensbee both netted goals for Tulsa's 14th-ranked men's soccer team en route to a 2-0 win over FIU on Sunday afternoon at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 8-5-3 on the season and 3-3-2 in Conference USA, while the Panthers fell to 6-9-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the league.
"Both teams came out in the first half and created a number of chances," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "We wanted to get the ball forward quickly and get it to our strikers, and I thought we did a good job of that and possessing the ball. We took most of our chances pretty well, but their keeper came up with a couple big saves and we hit the crossbar a couple times. In the second half we limited them to just one chance so I was happy with that. We've have only conceded one goal in the last three games, so overall I think defensively we've been playing very well."
Cumings scored the game-winning goal at the 52:30 mark as he punched in a goal from two yards out off a rebound attempt by Akeil Barrett. Follensbee drilled in a goal from 30 yards out in the 60th minute to give TU a two-goal cushion.
Cristian Mata led TU with four shots, while Cumings had three attempts, and Barrett and Omar Mata each had two shots. Cody Mumma logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up four saves for the shutout.
The Golden Hurricane had a 17-8 lead in shots, including a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal, and a 7-5 lead in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action Friday, November 8th against Florida Atlantic. Game time is set for 6:00 pm in Boca Raton, Fla.
