Tulsa, Oklahoma -
Austin Neil netted two goals and Kilian Poeschk earned two assists for Tulsa's 12th-ranked men's soccer team to give the Golden Hurricane a 2-1 win over Kentucky on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 12-4-2 on the season, while the Wildcats fell to 13-6 overall.
The Golden Hurricane advances to the C-USA Championship game and will battle Marshall for its third-straight C-USA tournament title. The game, which will be broadcast live on CBS College Sports on Sunday, will begin at 1:10 p.m. at the Hurricane Stadium. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for youth (12 and under).
"We are looking forward to the opportunity to play Marshall in the Conference USA Championship on Sunday," Tulsa Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "We had a tight game with them a few weeks ago, so Sunday's game will be a challenge. They played well tonight. They created chances against UAB and are a very dangerous team."
Neil scored his ninth goal of the season at the 8:28 mark on a put-back from Poeschk's shot attempt, and his 10th goal off a cross from Poeschk in the 59th minute.
UK's George Davis IV prevented the shutout as he punched in a goal in the 69th minute off a forward pass form Chad Hagerty.
TU was led by Neil who had seven shots, five of which were on goal, while Ashley McInnes, Poeschk, Tanner Petrick and Corey Albertson each had one attempt. Andy Aguilar logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up five saves.
"I thought we played really well in spurts tonight," McIntosh said. "We combined well at times and created some good chances. Give credit to Kentucky, they came up with some big saves and put us under a lot of pressure in the second half."
The Wildcats had a 13-11 advantage in shots, but the Golden Hurricane took an 8-6 lead in shots on goal, and both teams had seven corner kicks.
