Tulsa, Oklahoma - Tulsa forward Cristian Mata was tabbed to the Soccer America All-Freshman first team, as announced by the same publication. Mata is TU's first first-team selection, while Austin Neil was a second-team honoree in 2008.

Mata had a team-best 14 goals, including five game-winners, and six assists for 34 points as true freshman. He ranked ninth in points per game (1.7), 12th in total points, 13th in goals per game (0.7) and total goals, and 83rd in total assists among the nation's best.

Mata was the Conference USA Freshman of the Year, was an All-C-USA first team and C-USA All-Freshman team selection, was a two-time C-USA Offensive Player of the Week honoree, was tabbed to the College Soccer News Team of the Week once, was selected to the Top Drawer Soccer Top-100 Freshman List and TDS Freshman Team of the Season, was a College Sports Madness Freshman of the Year and CSM All-C-USA First Team honoree, and was named to the NCAA Midwest All-Region first team.
