Jan. 17, 2012
Tulsa, Oklahoma - Tulsa's Justin Chavez was selected by the Chicago Fire in the fourth round of the 2012 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft today.
"I'm just delighted to have the opportunity to show my talent," Chavez said. "I actually head out on Friday to start training. I've never been to Chicago, but I am looking forward to this new and exciting experience."
Chavez, who was a four-year letterwinner, started in 75 of 77 career games, and posted five goals and four assists for 14 points from his defender position. He was a two-time Hermann Trophy Watch List honoree, and was a two-time All-Conference USA first team selection and two-time NSCAA All-Region team member. Chavez was also tabbed as the 2009 C-USA Defensive Player of the Year.
"I think Justin is very deserving of this opportunity to play in the MLS," Tulsa Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "I am very pleased for him, but it also shows that we continue to develop players at Tulsa that can go on and play professionally."
