Air Force Men's Soccer Standout Daniel Wasson Transfers to Tulsa

Golden Hurricane Will Boast Three of the Nation's Top-20 Returning Scorers From 2003

June 8, 2004

Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa Head Men's Soccer Coach Tom McIntosh announced today that Daniel Wasson has transferred to Tulsa from the United States Air Force Academy. Wasson will be immediately eligible for the fall 2004 campaign.

A 5'10" midfielder and native of Colorado Springs, Colo., Wasson started 35 of 37 career games and registered 23 goals and seven assists for 53 career points in two seasons at Air Force. He also posted seven game-winning goals.

During his sophomore season of 2003, Wasson started 17 of 18 games and tallied 17 goals and two assists for 36 points. He completed the season ranked fourth nationally in scoring (2.0) and also ranked third in the country for goals scored. Wasson notched three hat tricks on the year and set a school record for consecutive hat tricks, scoring three goals in back-to-back games against Marquette and Drury, and concluded the season with five game-winning goals. He was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Player of the Week twice and was selected as the National Student-Athlete of the Week by College Sports Television on Oct. 12. Wasson led the MPSF in scoring and was named first-team all-conference, and also picked up All-Far West Region second team honors. Behind Wasson, Air Force ranked seventh nationally for scoring offense.

"Daniel is a proven scorer at the Division I level," McIntosh said. "We lost four experienced midfielders to graduation, and Daniel will give us strength at the attacking midfield position. Daniel will be a legitimate threat in the midfield area, which something we have not had in the past couple of years."

"He is a very versatile player, who is a natural attacking midfielder. Daniel reads the game well and makes good decisions with the ball. He possesses a very high skill level and has an excellent work rate, which are very important attributes for an attacking midfielder," McIntosh added.

As a freshman in 2002, he started 18 of 19 games and was second on the team in scoring with six goals and five assists for 17 points. He recorded two game-winning goals and tied for seventh in the MPSF in scoring. He was named to the all-conference second team and was also selected to two regular season all-tournament teams and to the MPSF all-tournament squad.

During his prep career at Liberty (Colo.) High School, Wasson was a four-year letterwinner in soccer and earned two letters in football. He was a two-time all-state performer in soccer and was an All-America selection during his senior season.

Wasson, who ranked fourth nationally in scoring a year ago, will join TU junior All-American Ryan Pore and senior Kyle Brown as three of the nation's top returning scorers from the 2003 campaign. Pore was the nation's second-leading scorer, while Brown ranked 16th.
