Providence, R.I. - - The Tulsa men's soccer team was picked third in the 2014 American Athletic Conference preseason poll, as voted on by the league's eight head coaches. TU midfielder Akeil Barrett and defender Bradley Bourgeois were tabbed to the preseason all-conference team, which was also announced.

"This is a league that four or five teams can make the NCAA Tournament, so to be picked among the top three shows the depth of the league," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "I am certainly happy that Akeil and Bradley were recognized because they are both very good in their positions and are worthy of the honors, but I also believe we have a couple of other guys that at the end of the season will be honored as well."

UConn was chosen as the favorite to claim the 2014 American title, while USF was second and Tulsa was third. UCF, Temple, SMU, Memphis and Cincinnati round out the preseason poll.

This is the Golden Hurricane's first season in the American after spending the last nine years as a member of Conference USA. Tulsa returns 11 letterwinners, including eight starters, from last year's team, which posted an 11-6-3 overall record and a 4-3-2 mark in C-USA.

Barrett, a senior from Kingston, Jamaica, is a two-year letterwinner who has started in 34 of 41 games, and has 14 goals and 12 assists for 40 career points. Barrett was selected to the NSCAA All-Midwest Region third team, All-C-USA second team and C-USA All-Tournament team last season, and was also a C-USA All-Tournament team honoree as a sophomore.

A junior from Cypress, Texas, Bourgeois is a two-year letterwinner who has started all 40 games of his career. He has netted one goal and earned one assist, while being an integral part of 15 shutouts. Bourgeois was named to the C-USA third team and NSCAA All-Midwest Region third team last year, and picked up C-USA All-Freshman team accolades in 2012.

Tulsa will take on Rogers State on Friday, August 22nd at the practice field beginning at 4:30 pm, and will face Central Arkansas in the final preseason warm-up on Saturday, August 23rd beginning at 7:30 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU will open the regular season at Saint Louis on August 29th.
