Tulsa, Oklahoma - Four Tulsa men's soccer players picked up College Sports Madness Conference USA preseason honors, as announced today by the same publication. Cristian Mata was named as the CSM C-USA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Jake McGuire was selected as the CSM C-USA Preseason Freshman of the Year, and Cristian Mata, Omar Mata, Stephen Roberson and Bryce Follensbee were all tabbed to the CSM C-USA Preseason Teams.

Cristian, a sophomore forward, started in 19 of 20 games as a true freshman last season. He led the Golden Hurricane in goals (14), assists (6) and points (34), as well as the league in goals and points. He was named as the Conference USA Freshman of the Year, the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week twice, and was tabbed to the All-C-USA first team and C-USA All-Freshman Team. Cristian was also selected to the College Soccer News Team of the Week once, the Top Drawer Soccer Freshman Team of the Season and was tabbed to the NSCAA Midwest All-Region first team a year ago. He has already been named as a College Soccer News Preseason All-American, as well as the Conference USA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and was tabbed to the Preseason All-C-USA team this season.

A freshman goalkeeper from Chino Hills, Calif., McGuire played club soccer for Chivas USA and the US Soccer Development Academy, and was also a member of the U17 National Team Residency Program. He was the No. 2 goalkeeper and the No. 22-ranked recruit by Top Drawer Soccer, and the No. 34-ranked recruit by College Soccer News.

 

 

Omar, a senior midfielder, is a three-year letterwinner and starter. He has tallied 14 goals and 13 assists for 41 points, and is a two-time all-C-USA performer, earning second-team honors as a sophomore and first-team accolades his junior season. As a junior, Omar netted seven goals, including three game-winners, and six assists for 20 points, ranking second in assists, and third in goals scored and points for TU. For his efforts, he was named to the NSCAA Midwest All-Region first team last year. This season, Omar has been selected to the Preseason All-C-USA team.

A junior midfielder, Roberson is a two-year letterwinner who has started in 23 of 31 games played, and has three goals and nine assists for 15 points. Last year Roberson picked up five assists and was tabbed to the CSM All-C-USA second team.

Follensbee, a sophomore forward, started in five of 21 games as a true freshman. He ranked second on the team with nine goals and added three assists for 21 points last season. For his efforts, Follensbee picked up C-USA All-Freshman team honors, CSM All-C-USA second team accolades, and was selected to the Top Drawer Soccer Top-100 Freshman List.
