Tulsa, Okla. - Tulsa senior Omar Mata and sophomore Cristian Mata were named to the 2013 Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List, as announced today by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

"It is good recognition for Omar and Cristian," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "I am certainly pleased with what they've been able to accomplish and help our team accomplish. We want our players to get recognized for their hard work and achievements, because it also recognizes our team. I am ready to get the season started and see what we can do this year."

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in college soccer presented annually to one male and one female athlete. The winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at the trophy presentation banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

Omar is a three-year letterwinner and starter. He has tallied 14 goals and 13 assists for 41 points, and is a two-time all-C-USA performer, earning second-team honors as a sophomore and first-team accolades his junior season. As a junior, Omar netted seven goals, including three game-winners, and six assists for 20 points, ranking second in assists, and third in goals scored and points for TU. For his efforts, he was named to the NSCAA Midwest All-Region first team last year. This season, Omar has been selected to the Preseason All-C-USA team.

Cristian started in 19 of 20 games as a true freshman last season. He led the Golden Hurricane in goals (14), assists (6) and points (34), as well as the league in goals and points. He was named as the Conference USA Freshman of the Year, the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week twice, and was tabbed to the All-C-USA first team and C-USA All-Freshman Team. Cristian was also selected to the College Soccer News Team of the Week once, the Top Drawer Soccer Freshman Team of the Season and was tabbed to the NSCAA Midwest All-Region first team a year ago. He has already been named as a College Soccer News Preseason All-American, as well as the Conference USA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and was tabbed to the Preseason All-C-USA team this season.

Near the end of the collegiate regular season, NCAA Division I coaches that are NSCAA members will vote on their top choices and the lists will be narrowed down to the top 15. College soccer fans will also have the opportunity to participate in the selection process, as they will be able to vote for their favorite semifinalist starting in November at the MAC Hermann Trophy website. From that pool of 15, three finalists will be chosen for the award, and the winner will be announced in January.
