Irving, Texas - Tulsa's Cristian Mata was named as the Conference USA Men's Soccer Freshman of the Year, while four players picked up All-C-USA honors and three were tabbed to the All-Freshman Team, as announced today by the league and voted on by the C-USA coaches.

Cristian and Omar Mata were named to the All-C-USA First Team, while Mark Pais and Tony Rocha were third-team selections. Cristian, Bryce Follensbee and Bradley Bourgeois were C-USA All-Freshman Team honorees.

A forward from Tulsa, Okla., Cristian has a team-best 12 goals, including five game-winners, and four assists for 28 points. He ranks first in game-winning goals, second in goals and points, fourth in shots (55) and 10th in assists among the league's best, and is 14th in points per game (1.75) and goals per game (.75), 17th in total goals, and 18th in total points in the nation. Cristian was tabbed as the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week twice, was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week once and was selected as the No. 6 player on the Top Drawer Soccer Top-100 Freshman midseason list.

Omar, a junior midfielder from Tulsa, Okla., has six goals and a team-leading five assists for 17 points. He has attempted 22 shots, 12 of which were on goal, and recorded two game-winning goals on the year to rank sixth in assists and 10th in points in the league. Omar was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Top-100 List and the Top Drawer Soccer C-USA Top-20 List, and was a C-USA Preseason Team honoree.

A senior goalkeeper from St. Louis, Mo., Pais has logged over 1,547 minutes in goal, recorded 63 saves and five shutouts, and has a 1.22 goals-against average and a .750 saves percentage. Pais ranks third in saves and saves percentage, and fourth in shutouts and goals-against average among the league, and is 81st in total saves in the nation. He was a two-time C-USA Defensive Player of the Week selection this season, and was a College Sports Madness C-USA Player of the Week and College Sports Madness National Player of the Week once.

 

 

Rocha, a junior defender from Spring, Texas, has one goal and three assists for five points, while helping the Golden Hurricane record five shutouts this season. He was selected to the College Sports Madness All-C-USA Preseason Second Team at the beginning of the year.

A forward from Orlando, Fla., Follensbee has eight goals and three assists for 19 points. He ranks fifth in goals and sixth in points in the league, and is 61st in total goals, 70th in goals per game (.47), 72nd in total points and 82nd in points per game (1.12) in the nation. Follensbee was the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week once, the College Sports Madness C-USA Player of the Week once, was tabbed to both the Soccer America and Top Drawer Soccer Teams of the Week, and was ranked at No. 15 in the Top Drawer Soccer Top-100 Freshman midseason list.

Bourgeois, a defender from Cypress, Texas, has one goal and one assist for three points, while helping TU post five shutouts on the year. He was tabbed to the Hurricane Classic All-Tournament team, and was Tulsa's Player of the Match against Loyola Marymount.
