Irving, Texas - Tulsa's Tony Rocha was named as the Conference USA Freshman of the Year, four players were tabbed to the all-C-USA teams and three were selected to the all-Freshman Team, as announced today by the league office.

Corey Albertson and Omar Mata were All-C-USA Second Team honorees, while Rocha and Blaine Gonsalves were named to the Third Team. Rocha, Abe Matamoros and Stephen Roberson were All-Freshman Team selections.

Rocha, a midfielder from Spring, Texas, started all 15 games as a true freshman. He had a goal against South Carolina and a team-best five assists on the season for seven points. Rocha also had a team-high 53 shots and was selected as TU's "Man of the Match" against the Gamecocks and UAB.

A senior forward from Norman, Okla., Albertson started 15 of 17 games this season and had a team-leading six goals, including the game-winner against FIU, and three assists for 15 points. He was selected to the SMU Classic All-Tournament team and was named TU's "Man of the Match" seven times this season.

Mata, a sophomore midfielder from Tulsa, Okla., started all 17 games this season, and punched in four goals and had four assists for 12 points. He ranked second on the team in goals, assists and points, while taking 35 shots. Mata was selected to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week on Sept. 6, and was named to the Hurricane Classic and SMU Classic All-Tournament teams.

A senior defender from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Gonsalves started in 13 of 14 games this season. He had two goals, including the game-winner against Oakland, and one assist for five points. Gonsalves had just two shots on the season, both of which were on goal, and helped TU post a shutout over #25 Loyola Marymount.

 

 

Matamoros, a midfielder from Houston, Texas, started in 14 of 17 games. He picked up an assist in his first collegiate contest (SIU-Edwardsville), and attempted 14 shots, six of which were on goal. Matamoros was selected as TU's "Man of the Match" against Kentucky.

A forward from Madison, Wis., Roberson started in eight of 11 games. He had three goals and four assists for 10 points, the third most points for a Tulsa player this season, and attempted 23 shots. Roberson was selected as TU's "Man of the Match" against Dartmouth and FIU.
