Tulsa Men's Soccer Team to Face SMU in Conference USA Championship on Sunday

Tulsa, Okla. - Tulsa's second-seeded men's soccer team will take on top-seeded SMU in the Conference USA Championship match on Sunday, November 11th. Game time is set for 1:00 pm at Regions Park in Birmingham, Ala. The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
In the eight-year history of the C-USA Men's Soccer Championship, Tulsa has tallied a 12-3-2 overall record in the tournament. The Golden Hurricane won the tournament in 2007, 2008 and 2009, and also played in the title game in 2005 and 2010. Sunday's trip will mark the sixth time in eight years TU has played in the final.
Tulsa (12-5-1) is led offensively by Cristian Mata who has netted 12 goals and four assists for 28 points. Bryce Follensbee has recorded eight goals, while Omar Mata has six and Akeil Barrett has five. Mark Pais has played the full 1,653 minutes in goal, earned 67 saves and has six shutouts.
TU has outscored its opponents 41-21, including a strong 25-9 lead in the second frame, and the Hurricane has not conceded a goal in the three overtime contests this year.
SMU's (10-4-4) Tyler Engel has a team-best eight goals and seven assists for 23 points, followed by Andrew Morales with four goals and four assists for 16 points. Jaime Ibarra has played all 18 games between the posts, picked up 91 saves and allowed just 18 goals for six shutouts on the season.
TU topped UAB, 1-0, in overtime, while SMU tied Kentucky, 2-2, and advanced to the Championship on penalty kicks (4-1) in the semifinals. Both teams received byes in the first round. The Mustangs earned a 1-0 win over Tulsa earlier this season.
