Six Tulsa Men's Soccer Players Named to All-Midwest Region TeamsDec. 15, 2008
Tulsa, Oklahoma - Six Tulsa men's soccer players were named to the 2008 NSCAA/adidas NCAA All-Midwest Region, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Chris Clements, Ashley McInnes and Joe Salem were tabbed to the first team, while Tyrel Lacey, Austin Neil and Chris Taylor were second-team selections. A senior from Allen, Texas, Clements played in 18 games this season and attempted four shots from his defender position. He was also instrumental in nine of Tulsa's shutouts on the year. Clements was named to the Missouri Athletic Club's Herman Trophy Watch List, was a College Soccer News Pre-Season All-America selection and picked up All-Conference USA second-team honors. McInnes, a sophomore from Aberdeen, Scotland, scored five goals and had eight assists for 18 points this season. He attempted 70 shots, 23 of which were on goal, the most for a Golden Hurricane this year. McInnes was named the C-USA Player of the Year, and picked up all-conference second-team and all-tournament team honors. A sophomore from Copley, Ohio, Salem scored a goal and picked up an assist against UAB during the regular season, and added an assist against UAB in the C-USA Championship for four points on the year. He received all-league first team and all-tournament team accolades. Lacey, a senior goalkeeper from Jenks, Okla., logged 1994:21 in goal and tallied eight shutouts this year. He picked up 77 saves and allowed just 14 goals for a .63 GAA and a .846 saves percentage. Lacey received All-C-USA first team honors and was tabbed to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Season third team. A freshman from Broken Arrow, Okla., Neil led TU with 11 goals, including six game winners, and 26 points. He was named the C-USA Freshman of the Year, and picked up all-league second team, all-Freshmen team and all-tournament team honors. Neil was also a Top Drawer Soccer All-Rookie Squad second team honoree.
Taylor, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., had four goals and four assists for 12 points this year. Three of his goals were scored off penalty kicks, and three were game-winners. For his efforts this season, Taylor was named to the All-C-USA first team. The Golden Hurricane concluded the season with a 16-4-3 overall record and a 7-0-1 league mark. TU advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship, posted the most wins in school history and had a 16-game unbeaten streak during the season. |
