Tulsa Men's Tennis Cruises on Opening Day against Arkansas-Little Rock

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa's men's tennis team easily defeats the Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans 6-1 in the opening match of the 2008 spring season. Tulsa took two doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead. The 16th ranked pair of junior Arnau Brugues and senior Ricardo Soriano defeated the Trojans' pair of Marko Ballok and Igor Nikitin, 8-2. TU's fifth ranked team of senior Andy Connelly and junior Ross Cunningham beat UALR's duo of Edson Abrao and Rain Roigas, 8-5. The other doubles match between senior Will Gray and sophomore Albert Jou and Juan Carlos Nunez and German Perez did not finish.
In singles action, Tulsa 44th ranked Soriano defeated Perez, 6-2, 6-1. Followed by TU's two-time All-American Brugues beating Roigas, 6-3, 6-2. Securing the win was Connelly by defeating Nunez, 6-1, 6-1, giving the Golden Hurricane a 4-0 lead. Juo made it 5-0 by beating Victor Wibreus, 6-2, 7-6(11) in the sixth slot. Arkansas-Little Rock got its lone victory from Ballok, who defeated Cunningham, 7-6(4), 6-3. Gray finished the match off with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Abrao.
Tulsa's second match of the day against Oral Roberts was cancelled because of time.
