TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa men's tennis team's comeback bid fell short as Tennessee held on with a 4-3 win after going up 3-0 on Sunday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

No. 6 Tennessee (7-1) won the doubles point after wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles position. TU's doubles team of Japie De Klerk and Alejandro Espejodefeated No. 28 doubles team of Jarryd Chaplin and Brandon Fickey 6-1.

The Volunteers increased its lead to 3-0 after wins at the No. 6 and No. 2 singles position, but No. 30 Golden Hurricane (5-4) got on the board with a win from De Klerk at the No. 1 singles position as he beat No. 34 Mikelis Libietis 6-4, 6-1.

The Golden Hurricane cut the Volunteers lead 3-2 after an Espejo's 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 4 singles position and Dylan McCloskey's6-5 (2), 6-4 win at the No. 5 singles position to tie the match at three.

The match came down to the No. 3 singles position with Fickey for Tennessee and No. 71 Carlos Bautistafor the Golden Hurricane.

Bautista lost the first set 6-4, but won the second set 6-5 (3) to force a final third set. In the third set, Fickey scored the first two points, but Bautista scored the next two points to tie it at two. Fickey won the next point, but Bautista won the next two points to take a 4-3 lead. Fickey won the final three points to win the set and the match and to give the Volunteers the win.

The Golden Hurricane travels to Minnesota, Minn., to face host Minnesota on Friday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. and Harvard on Sunday, Feb. 9 at noon.
