The Golden Hurricane Blows By No. 63-Ranked Spartans 7-0

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa's men's tennis team defeated no. 63-ranked Michigan State Spartans 7-0 in probably the quickest dual match of the season, Friday night at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The win moves Tulsa to 3-2 against ranked opponents. Two-time All-American Arnau Brugues cruised to victory over Nick Rinks, who had previously been undefeated with an 8-0 record, 6-2, 6-3. On court No. 2, 44th-ranked Ricardo Soriano dispatched Alex Forger, 6-4, 6-4. Senior Will Gray playing at the No. 4 position took down previous unbeaten Adam Monich, 6-1, 6-3. At the back-end of Tulsa's lineup, Ross Cunningham defeated Scott Rasmussen, 6-3, 6-3, while Albert Jou beat John Stratton, 6-2, 6-3. Jou moves to 3-0 on the season. In the final singles match of the evening, Alberto Sottocorno fought back to win the last four games of the second set to overcome John Allare, 7-5, 6-4. In the doubles competition of the dual, the Golden Hurricane won two of the three matches. The pairs of Brugues/Soriano and Vitkor Kolik/Sottocorno won easily, 8-2. The 15th-ranked duo of Brugues/Soriano is now 7-0 on the season, while the team of Kolik/Sottocorno got its first win together on its third try. In TU's lone hiccup of the night, the fifth-ranked pair of Andy Connelly/Cunningham fell to Rinks/Monich, 9-7, in a tightly contested match. The Golden Hurricane will be action again on Sunday, February 10 against the No. 22 ranked Texas A&M Aggies at 2 pm at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
