TULSA, Okla. - The No. 23-ranked University of Tulsa men's tennis team defeated Wichita State 6-1 Friday night inside Case Tennis Center.

The Golden Hurricane (3-5) swept the doubles point and took five of six singles matches from the Shockers (2-2).

TU started doubles play with an 8-3 win from the freshman team of Lucian Gheorghe and Alejandro Sanchez over Juan Estenssoro and Nestor Perez from the third court.

The home team took the first point of the match after juniors Grant Ive and Tristan Jackson, ranked No. 37 in the nation, defeated Erick Reyes and Tomislav Gregurovic 8-5 from the second position.

The No. 3-ranked duo of senior Ashley Watling and junior Clifford Marsland made it a clean sweep after taking down No. 20 David Cavalcanti and Matheus Pereira 8-5 at the top of the lineup. The win was the fifth in a row for the Tulsa tandem.

Jackson was the first member of the Golden Hurricane off court during singles play, after he posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Reyes from the fourth position.

No. 83 Watling took down Cavalcanti 6-1, 6-4 from the second court to give TU a 3-0 advantage. The win gave him 73 for his career, and he moved into a tie for 10th in school history for career singles victories (Ian Harris, 1992-96).

Wichita State was able to stave off defeat momentarily after Pereira, ranked 66th in the country, defeated sophomore Japie De Klerk 6-4, 6-1 on the top court.
