SEATTLE - The No. 33-ranked University of Tulsa men's tennis team posted a 4-0 upset victory over No. 30 Louisville Sunday morning inside Nordstrom Tennis Center.
The Golden Hurricane (7-7) won the doubles point at the neutral-site match, and TU was also able to wrap up three singles matches before the Cardinals (9-6) could factor into the team score.
Junior Grant Ive and freshman Alejandro Espejo continued their dominant stretch with an 8-5 win over Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Robert Hall at the second flight. Since being paired together, Ive and Espejo are 5-0 in doubles action.
No. 65-ranked Watling put TU ahead 2-0 after he defeated Wagner 6-2, 6-0 on the third singles court. He has now won eight of his last nine singles matches.
No. 99-ranked De Klerk defeated Stiefelmeyer 6-3, 6-1 at the top of the lineup, and junior Tristan Jackson clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Chris Simich on the fifth court.
The experienced members of the Golden Hurricane were able to take advantage of the youth of the three freshmen Cardinals.
The other three singles matches went unfinished.
Tulsa will take a week off before heading to Texas for two matches. The Golden Hurricane will first face No. 60 TCU at 5:30 p.m. March 16, and the team will then head to Austin, Texas, for a showdown with the No. 8-ranked Longhorns at 1 p.m. March 18.
TU eliminated Texas in the NCAA Second Round a year ago to advance to the Round of 16 for the first time in program history.
