No. 29 Tulsa Defeats No. 61 Michigan State, 6-1

Berkeley, Calif. - The 29th-ranked Tulsa men's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 victory over 61st-ranked Michigan State on Friday afternoon at the Hellman Tennis Complex in Berkeley, Calif. The Golden Hurricane has won four consecutive matches against nationally-ranked opponents and improves its record to 13-5 on the season.
Tulsa captured the doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and 2 positions. Third-ranked Arnau Brugues and Philip Stephens easily handled John Allare and Jason Norville, 8-2, in the No. 1 slot, and Ross Cunningham and Ashley Watling topped Austin Brooks and John Stratton, 8-3, in the No. 2 slot.
The Hurricane continued to play well in singles action winning five out six matches. Senior Arnau Brugues, the third-ranked player in the nation, defeated John Allare 6-3, 6-4, in top spot to win his 14 straight singles match. Senior Alberto Sottocorno won a thrilling 7-5, 4-6, 11-9, decision over Alex Forger in the No. 2 position, and junior Philip Stephens defeated Scott Rasmussen, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 3 slot.
Freshman Ashley Watling won his sixth straight match with a tough 6-4, 4-6, 10-7, win over Austin Brooks in the No. 4 position, and junior Marko Ballok knocked off John Stratton, 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 6 position.
Tulsa is back in action tomorrow against 60th-ranked California at 3:00 p.m. at the Hellman Tennis Complex in Berkeley, Calif.
