TU Men's Netters Continues Slide; Falls to Harvard, 4-3
March 22, 2001
Tulsa, Oklahoma - On the third and final day of the Blue-Gray Classic in Montgomery, Ala., the 37th-ranked Harvard Crimson and 33rd-ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricane met for the second time this season. But to the dismay of the Hurricane, the results were the same. Harvard defeated Tulsa, 4-3, at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center.
The two teams met earlier this season at Harvard and the Crimson pulled off a similar 4-3 win.
With the loss, Tulsa falls to 8-7 overall this season and has come up short in its last three matches.
Harvard used victories at the No.2 and No. 3 doubles slots to claim the all-important doubles point. The two teams then split the six singles contests and the Crimson escaped with a 4-3 upset victory.
Tulsa juniors Pawel Sebastyanski and Dane McGregor started the Hurricane out on a solid note by taking the top two singles matches. But Tulsa's four remaining singles players could only manage one win between them. Junior Sean Monk won his 17th singles match of the season, which ties his for the most on the team, with a 6-4, 7-5, triumph over Anthony Barker at the No. 6 position.
McGregor/Sudhakara (TU) def. Nguyen/Choo (HU), 8-5
Zomer/Mike Nammar (TU) lost to Lee/Turner (HU), 9-8
Monk/Sebastyanski (TU) lost to Barker/Riddell (HU), 8-1
