TULSA, Okla. - In their first home outdoors match of the season, the 38th-ranked Tulsa men's tennis team defeated No. 35 Nebraska, 5-2, on Friday evening at the Case Tennis Center. The Hurricane improves to 12-5 on the season and 9-2 at home.

The Hurricane swept all three doubles matches to claim the point and a 1-0 lead.

Marcelo Arevalo and Grant Ive improved their record to 5-0 on the season with an easy 8-4 win over Andre Stenger and Taylor Boney in the No. 3 position. 40th-ranked Philip Stephens and Ashley Watling won their ninth-straight match with a come-from-behind 8-6 victory over 73rd-ranked Calin Paar and David Bendheim in the No. 1 flight to clinch the doubles point.

Marko Ballok and Alastair Barnes completed the sweep with an 8-5 decision over Francois Van Impe and Benedikt Lindheim in the second position.

Marcelo Arevalo, the 88th-ranked player in the nation, quickly disposed of David Bendheim, 6-3, 6-2, in No. 1 singles, and Grant Ive finished off Eric Sock 6-4, 6-2, in the sixth position to give Tulsa a commanding 3-0 lead.

The Huskers responded with wins from Francois Van Impe over 114th-ranked Philip Stephens, 6-3, 7-5, in No. 2 singles, and Benedikt Lindheim over Alastair Barnes, 6-3, 7-5, in No. 4 singles to cut the Tulsa advantage to 3-2.

 

 

45th-ranked Ashley Watling clinched the TU win with a 7-5, 6-1 decision over 81st-ranked Calin Paar in No. 3 singles, and Marko Ballok topped Andre Stenger, 6-4, 7-5, in the fifth slot to seal the 5-2 victory.

Tulsa is back in action on Tuesday when they host Arkansas at 1:00 p.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
