Austin, Texas - The University of Tulsa's men's tennis team lost only its fourth dual match of the season, falling to the sixth-ranked University of Texas Longhorns, 6-1, Thursday evening at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center in Austin, Texas. The loss drops the Golden Hurricane to 11-4 against ranked opponents with all four losses coming to team ranked in the top-10. Tulsa and Texas has met nine times with the Longhorns winning every time.

The Golden Hurricane a night removed from its 4-1 victory over No. 19 Rice only managed one victory against the sixth-ranked Longhorns. TU's lone win came from freshman Victor Kolik, who defeated No. 22 Kellen Damico, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 2 position. Kolik, the most recent Conference USA Male Player of the Week, has won three consecutive matches against ranked opponents and now has an overall record of 11-3. Tulsa's first singles loss of the evening was junior Ross Cunningham falling to Milan Mihailovic, 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 5 position. Cunningham's defeat was closely followed by Senior Ricardo Soriano losing to No. 48 Ed Corrie, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 position. TU's next defeat occurred at the No. 4 position with senior Will Gray falling to No. 109 Luis Diaz Barriga, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3). Barriga, who clinched the match for Texas, is the older brother of TU women's tennis player Thalia Diaz-Barriga. Texas' fourth singles victory was by No. 16 Dimitar Kutrovsky defeating No. 24 Arnau Brugues, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 at the No. 1 position. TU's final loss came in a third-set tiebreaker as senior Andy Connelly fell to Miguel Reyes Varela, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5), at the No. 6 position.

 

 

TU was swept in the doubles competition for the first time this season with all three matches ending 8-3. At the No. 1 position, No. 7 Corrie / Damico defeated No. 24 Connelly / Cunningham. While, Tulsa's No. 31-ranked pair of Brugues / Soriano was upset by No. 41 Diaz Barriga / Reyes Varela at the No. 2 position. Lastly at the No. 3 position, the duo of Kolik / Alberto Sottocorno fell to Kutrovsky / Josh Zavala.

The Golden Hurricane will play its final regular season home match on Wednesday, April 9 against No. 21 Oklahoma State at 5 p.m.
