Watling Shines On Senior Day

TULSA, Okla. - The No. 24-ranked University of Tulsa men's tennis team swept UCF 7-0 on Senior Day at Case Tennis Center.
The match began outdoors, but inclement weather in the Tulsa area forced singles play to be halted and moved indoors for the duration of the proceedings.
Senior Ashley Watling played his final home match for the Golden Hurricane (12-8, 2-0 Conference USA), and he did not disappoint as he won both matches.
He teamed with junior Clifford Marsland for an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles over Mitch Thams and Joe Delinks. He also took down Thams 6-1, 6-2 at the third singles position.
Tulsa started the match by sweeping the doubles point over the Knights (9-11, 0-3 C-USA). The junior duo of Grant Ive and Tristan Jackson clinched the first point of the match with an 8-3 decision over Erik Brunskog and Juan Bolona at the second position.
Marsland was the first off court in singles play, as the No. 93-ranked player in the nation took down Brunskog 6-1, 6-3 from the second flight.
Jackson topped Samson 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 singles, and No. 89-ranked Watling clinched the team victory with his triumph on the third court.
De Klerk, ranked No. 83 in the country, took down Blasco 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 1-0 (10-7) at the top of the lineup. Gheorghe defeated Delinks 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 from the sixth position, and Ive defeated Bolona 7-5, 7-5 on the fourth court.
Tulsa will now venture on a three-match road trip before heading to the Conference USA Championship in Orlando, Fla. The first match will be at 5 p.m. April 11 against Baylor.
