Tulsa, Okla. - The 30th-ranked Tulsa men's tennis team lost to sixth-ranked Baylor, 4-0, in the second round of the NCAA Championships on Saturday evening at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. The Golden Hurricane finishes the season with a 22-10 record, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships for the second-straight year and for the fourth time in school history.

"For all of the things that happened this season, I thought we had a good year," said Head Coach Vince Westbrook. "We finished with 22 wins and look finish the year ranked near the top-30 in the country. We ran into a great Baylor team that looks to go a long way in the tournament."

Baylor jumped out to the early 1-0 lead, grabbing the doubles point with wins in the top two positions. Philip Stephens and Ashley Watling lost to 64th-ranked Maros Horny and Denes Lukacs, 8-3, in the No. 2 slot, and 79th-ranked James Seagraves and Alberto Sottocorno fell to 18th-ranked David Galic and Jordan Rux, 8-4, in the No. 1 position. Marko Ballok and Arnau Brugues were leading 7-6 over Julian Bley and Dominik Mueller in the third position when the match was left unfinished after the Bears clinched the point.

The Bears quickly improved their lead to 2-0 with Maros Horny defeating junior Marko Ballok, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 6 singles. The lead expanded to 3-0 when 124th-ranked Dominik Mueller topped senior Alberto Sottocorno, 6-2, 6-0, in the fourth slot.



Baylor completed the 4-0 win with Julian Bley defeating 99th-ranked junior Philip Stephens, 6-4, 6-2, in the No. 3 position.

The showdown at No. 1 singles between top-ranked senior Arnau Brugues and fourth-ranked Denes Lukacs was left unfinished with the match tied at 6-3, 3-6, 1-1. Brugues finishes the duel season with a perfect 25-0 record, and a 41-3 record overall.

Sophomore Victor Kolik and freshman Ashley Watling had their matches left unfinished after Baylor already claimed the 4-0 win.

Brugues and Stephens will continue their seasons at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. Brugues enters the Men's Singles Championships as the top seed, and teams up with Stephens in the doubles championships as the 11th-ranked team in the nation. The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships take place on May 20-25 at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
