Tulsa Men's Tennis Wraps up First Day at Baylor Intercollegiate

Waco, Texas - The University of Tulsa men's tennis team sent three doubles teams into the second round and 65th-ranked senior Philip Stephens advanced to the A Draw singles round of 16 with a pair of wins on Friday at the Baylor Intercollegiate in Waco, Texas. Stephens defeated Texas Tech's Raphael Pfister, 6-3, 6-1, in the first round and Tennessee's Edward Jones, 6-4, 6-2, in the second round.
Sophomore Ashley Watling swept past Mindaugas Celedinas of UT-Arlington 6-0, 6-0 in the first round of A Draw singles to advance to the second round where he will face 22nd-ranked Bruno Rosa of Rice.
Sophomore James Seagraves defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Alex Pavlov 6-3, 7-5 in B Draw singles first round action, but fell to Wichita State's Matheus Pereira in a tough 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4) decision.
In doubles action, all three Tulsa teams won their first round matchups with James Seagraves and Rusty Turpin defeating Tennessee's Matteo Fago and Edward Jones, 8-3, and Philip Stephens and Ashley Watling beating Emanuel Brighiu and Zach Nichols of TCU, 8-5, in the first round of A Draw doubles. Alastair Barnes and Patrick Collins topped Brievc Hamon and Adam Srkala of UT-Arlington, 8-5, in the opening round of B Draw doubles.
