Junior Japie De Klerk advanced to the Round of 16 at the Men's ITA All-American Championships after two victories on the opening day of the main draw at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Thursday, October 4.  

De Klerk, ranked No. 73 in the Preseason ITA Rankings, defeated Florida's No. 17-ranked Bob Van Overbeek, 6-4, 6-1 in his morning match. In the afternoon, De Klerk took down No. 26 Gonzales Austin of Vanderbilt 6-4, 7-6(8-6) to move on to the third round.

"Japie had a great day," commented Head Coach Vince Westbrook. "Here at Tulsa we know that he is capable of being one of the top players in the nation. The exciting thing is we know that he still can get better."

Up next for De Klerk is a matchup with Soren Hess-Olesen of Texas, which will take place tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.

In doubles, seniors Grant Ive and Tristan Jackson lost an 8-1 decision in the first round of the main draw to Ohio State's Connor Smith and Peter Kobelt.
