D'Novo Daily Update with Host Cedrique Flemming and
Tulsa sophomore Marcelo Arevalo (Day Four Update)
TULSA, Okla. - Grant Ive was up bright and early defeating Christopher Aumueller of Nebraska 6-4, 6-2. His match began at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, but he was clearly ready to go as he cruised in the second round of the Qualifying Draw at the 2010 D'Novo/ITA Men's Tennis All-American Championships at Case Tennis Center.
Ive will need to win one more match in order to reach the Main Draw, which begins Oct. 7. He will face Sadio Doumbia of Georgia on Wednesday, with match time to be released later this afternoon. Doumbia defeated Joey Burkhardt of North Carolina 6-4, 6-1 in the second round.
In Qualifying Doubles, the two tandems of Marcelo Arevalo/Rusty Turpin and Clifford Marsland/Ashley Watling each recorded dominating performances in the first round.
Arevalo and Turpin breezed by Javier Pulgar and Tim Schulz van Endert of San Diego State 8-4, and Marsland/Watling jumped all over Hawaii's duo of Dennis Lajola and Jeremy Tweedt 8-3.
Arevalo and Turpin faced a tough draw in the second round and could not come out victorious. They fell by the grueling score of 9-7 to Georgia Tech's Kevin King and Juan Spir.
Marsland and Watling were playing right next to their teammates and had a much easier time getting past Ilija Martinoski and Eric West of Oklahoma State, losing only one game in an 8-1 effort.
Marsland and Watling will have one match Wednesday and will need that victory if they are to move on to the Main Doubles Draw. They will play at 1 p.m. against Alberto Bautista and Colin Hoover of Texas A&M.
Turpin's tournament is complete, and Arevalo will next see action in the Main Singles Draw.
