De Klerk's Rally Falls Short In ITA All-American Quarterfinals
Oct. 6, 2012
TULSA, Okla. - Junior Japie De Klerk saw his ITA-All American Championships run draw to a close in the quarterfinals on Saturday, October 6 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. De Klerk, the No. 73-ranked player in the nation, lost a 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) match to Georgia's KU Singh, the No. 10 player in the country and the eighth-seeded player in the tournament. "It was a great match," commented Head Coach Vince Westbrook. "We needed to take advantage of our break points in the third set. There was high level tennis being played today, and when you are playing like that, mental errors will sometimes sneak up on you and they did today." De Klerk did earn a spot in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 8-11 in Flushing, N.Y, by making the quarterfinals of the ITA-All American Championships. The Golden Hurricane completed its run in the ITA All-American Championships and will turn its attention to the ITA Regional Tournament, held in Minneapolis, Minn., October 18-22. The finals of the singles and doubles main draw, along with the finals for the consolation brackets will take place tomorrow at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
