Arnau Brugues breezed through his quarterfinal and semifinal round singles matches on Sunday to advance to the Main Draw Singles Championship at the ITA Central Region Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. The top-seeded Brugues will face Arkansas' Matt Hogan for the singles title on Monday at 10 a.m. from the Dills Indoor Stadium at the University of Arkansas.
Brugues defeated Adrian Chermaci of Wichita State, 6-3, 6-0, in the quarterfinals, and swept pass Oklahoma's fifth-seeded Sergey Avdeyev, 6-0, 6-0, in the semifinals to secure a spot in the title match on Monday.
In advancing to the regional singles championship match, Brugues qualifies for the ITA National Indoor Championships. The indoor championships take place on Nov. 6-9 at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.
On Saturday, Patrick Collins and Rusty Turpin advanced to the Main Draw Doubles quarterfinals by beating Taylor King and Christopher Nott of Arkanas in the Round of 16, 9-8(4), before falling to Nebraska's David Benheim and Calin Paar, 9-7, in the quarterfinals.
Marko Ballok and Alberto Sottocorno were also eliminated from the tournament on Saturday after making it the Round of 16 in Main Draw Singles. Ballok lost to Wichita State's Adrian Chermaci and Sottocorno lost to fourth-seeded Maor Zirkin of Drake in the third round.
