Tulsa, Okla. - Tulsa senior Alicia Pillay and junior Alejandro Tejerina will continue match play Friday at the 2002 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Tennis Championships at the Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Texas. Pillay defeated Old Dominion's Nataly Cahana, while Tejerina defeated Mississippi's Paul Ciorascu in the first round.

Pillay, who is ranked 48th in the Division I preseason rankings, defeated 11th-ranked, fifth-seeded Cahana, 7-5, 6-3. She will face Tulane's 95th-ranked Julie Smekodub in the second round beginning at 8:30 a.m. Friday.

A senior from Pietermaritzbyrg, South Africa, Pillay was recently named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Month for October 2002. She is currently 14-1 for the fall season in singles play, losing only to 15th-ranked Mira Radu of Mississippi in the second round of the ITA All-American Championships. This fall she has increased her record to 8-8 when facing a ranked opponent.

Tulsa's Alejandro Tejerina, the nation's 97th-ranked player, defeated Mississippi's 69th-ranked Ciorascu, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of play. Tejerina, who is now 10-3 for the fall season in singles play, will face Benedikt Dorsch of Baylor Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the second round.

Tulsa's Ryan Livesay and Dustin Taylor lost in the first round of doubles play to Rice's 35th-ranked, fourth-seeded Richard and William Barker, 8-1. Livesay and Taylor will continue play in a consolation backdraw.
