TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa men's tennis team opens the 2014 Spring Schedule with two matches on Friday and two matches on Sunday.

No. 25 Golden Hurricane faces Oral Roberts at 1 p.m., followed by No. 61 Wichita State at 5 p.m. on Friday and No. 30 Drake University at noon and Illinois State at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Nineteen of Tulsa's 22 matches this season are against teams currently ranked in the International Tennis Association poll.

Sophomore Carlos Bautista is ranked No. 71 for the first time in his career after posting a 7-4 fall schedule. Bautista reached the semifinals at the United States Tennis Association in Orlando, Fla., at the end of October. The Ciudad Real, Spain native defeated No. 9-16 seed Benjamin Lock of Florida State and No. 7 seed of Michael Grant of USC to reach the semifinals.

Senior Japie De Klerk competed in the Davis Cup last fall for his country of South Africa. The Ashton, South Africa native won the first 7-6 (3) against Alex Bogomolov Jr., who was ranked No. 88 in the world, but ultimately lost the match, losing the next three sets 0-6, 4-6, 1-6.

An ITA All-American, De Klerk is coming off a successful junior campaign as he has been the only TU player to reach the NCAA singles semifinals in school history.

Senior Clifford Marsland needs three wins to enter the top 10 in singles wins in school history. Marsland has 70 career wins, falling shy of Ivan Harris who currently holds 10th with 73 wins from 1992-96. The Perth, Australia native has posted 20-plus wins in each of the first three seasons at TU.

The Golden Hurricane opens its road campaign next weekend, Jan. 25-26, for the ITA Kick-off Weekend. TU travels to Norman, Okla., to face Northwestern on Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by either Oklahoma or Virginia Tech on Sunday.
