Irving, Texas - Arnau Brugues was named Conference USA Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the first time this season and the seventh time in his career as announced today by the league office. Brugues helped 12th-ranked Tulsa advance to the round of 16 of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships with wins over No. 32 Notre Dame, 4-2, and 16th-ranked LSU, 4-2, this past weekend.

Brugues, ranked 10th nationally, went 2-0 in No. 1 singles defeating 20th-ranked Brett Helgeson of Notre Dame, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, in the first round, and dominating second-ranked Michael Venus of LSU, 6-1, 6-1, in the second round.

In No. 1doubles, Brugues and partner Philip Stephens posted a 1-1 record over the weekend picking up a win over 37th-ranked Brett Helgeson and Tyler Davis of Notre Dame, 8-4, while dropping a tough match to Neal Skupski and Michael Venus of LSU, 8-6.

On the season, Brugues has a remarkable 23-3 singles record, including a 12-3 mark against nationally-ranked opponents. The three-time All-American has also started the duel season with a perfect 7-0 singles record in the No. 1 position and a 5-1 mark in No. 1 doubles.

The Tulsa men's tennis team is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 7 when they take on Sacramento State and Wichita State in a double-header starting at 12:30 p.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
