ESPEJO NAMED CONFERENCE USA MEN'S TENNIS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

IRVING, Texas - The University of Tulsa men's tennis player Alejandro Espejo was named Conference USA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, announced by the league on Tuesday.
The junior won all three singles matches at the No. 4 singles position and went 2-1 at the No. 2 doubles position against three ranked teams, including two in the top-20.
The Granada, Spain native defeated Stefan Menichella of No. 16 Pepperdine 6-0, 6-2 to cut the Waves lead 2-1 and recorded the third point for TU by defeating Viktor Farkas 6-3, 6-1 of No. 42 Washington as the Golden Hurricane won the match 4-2.
Espejo defeated Jarryd Chaplin 6-4, 6-4 of No. 6 Tennessee to cut the Volunteers lead 3-2 and paired up with senior Japie De Klerk to defeat No. 28 UT doubles team of Chaplin and Brandon Fickey 6-1.
Espejo and De Klerk also defeated David Sofaer and Menichella of Pepperdine 6-2 to win the first doubles match.
This is Espejo's second weekly award in his career, the first this season. The Golden Hurricane has won all three men's tennis weekly award this season (De Klerk, Clifford Marsland).
The Golden Hurricane travels to Minneapolis, Minn., to face host Minnesota on Friday at 6 p.m. and Harvard on Sunday at noon.
