This Week, TU Hosts WAC Rival Fresno State: The last time these two teams met was in the semifinals of the 1998-99 WAC Championships. The Bulldogs edged the Hurricane, 4-3, in that match.
TU Earns Split with East Coast Schools: TU's singles wins against North Carolina came from junior Dane McGregor (Port Elizabeth, South Africa), freshman Alejandro Tejerina (Mar del Plata, Argentina), senior Micah Zomer (Tulsa, Okla.) and junior Sean Monk (Las Vegas, Nev.). TU captured the doubles point with the top combination of McGregor and Shri Sudhakara (Bangalore, India) claiming the top spot, while Zomer and junior Mike Nammar (Tulsa, Okla.) were victorious at the bottom slot. A day later in Richmond, Va., VCU began its match with Tulsa by sweeping all three doubles contests. Tulsa rallied in singles with McGregor, Sudhakara and Monk each posting wins, but the Rams also captured three wins to slide past the Hurricane, 4-3.
McGregor Breaks into National Polls:
McGregor Receives WAC Player of the Week Honors...Again: Against Virginia Commonwealth, McGregor upset the nation's 56th ranked singles player, Frank Moser, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, for his ninth straight victory. In doubles action, McGregor and Sudhakara suffered their first loss, 8-4, of the spring to Moser and Florian Marquardt, who are ranked fifth. Prior to the loss, Tulsa's tandem put together six straight doubles wins at the top spot. The pair is 8-4 overall and 6-1 in dual matches.
