Tulsa, Okla. -Tulsa's men's tennis team recorded the highest ranking ever received by TU, coming in at No. 25 in the March 21st Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. The Golden Hurricane surpassed the previous best, a No. 26 ranking set at the beginning of the 1998 season.
Arnau Brugues earned the highest ITA ranking ever received by a Tulsa tennis player, as he claimed the No. 6 slot. Brugues, a sophomore-transfer from Barcelona, Spain, has tallied an impressive 12-0 mark in his one semester at TU, including a 6-0 record against ranked opponents. His notable wins are a 6-4, 6-1 win over Texas' then 15th-ranked Travis Helgeson, a 6-3, 6-3 mark over Arkansas' then 15th-ranked Adrians Zguns, a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Texas A&M's then 16th-ranked Jerry Makowski and a 6-3, 6-1 win over VCU's then 19th-ranked Arnaud Lecloerec.
Ricardo Soriano and Federico Soriano join Brugues in the rankings, coming in at No. 91 and No. 98, respectively. A sophomore from Murcia, Spain, Ricardo Soriano owns a 10-8 overall mark and a 6-6 record in duel play, while older brother Federico Soriano has captured a 15-5 singles mark this year, including a 12-3 duel mark.
In doubles action, Brugues and Aleksander Charpantidis combined for a No. 63 ranking. The duo owns a 2-0 mark this year, with an 8-5 win over Arkansas' 22nd-ranked Rohan Gajjar and Matt Roberts, and a 9-8 victory over Louisville's 32nd-ranked Jeremy Clark and Jakob Gustafsson.
The rankings are determined by computer, taking into consideration what a team has done up to that point in the entire season.
