April 18, 2001 Tulsa, Oklahoma - Tulsa's Pawel Sebastyanski has been named the Western Athletic Conference men's tennis Player of the Week for matches played April 9-15. Although Tulsa dropped back-to-back WAC matches against two of the nation's top-10 teams last week, No. 2 TCU and No. 8 SMU, Sebasktyanski, a native of Wroclaw, Poland, finished the week with a 1-1 mark in both singles and doubles. Against the Horned Frogs, the junior pulled off one of the greatest upsets in TU men's tennis history. At No. 1 singles, Sebastyanski squared off against the nation's fourth-ranked player, Esteban Carril. Battling from start to finish, Sebastyanski completed the biggest upset of his career with a straight-set 7-5, 7-5 stunning upset that put an end to Carril's 12-match win streak. In doubles action, Sebastyanski and freshman partner Alejandro Tejerina topped TCU's Scott Eddins and Sebastian Iannariello, 8-5.
For the season, Sebastyanski is 20-16 overall and 13-11 in dual matches this spring.
