Tulsa, Oklahoma -
The University of Tulsa will host the 2008 NCAA Men's and Women's Tennis Championships on Thursday-Monday, May 15-26 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the TU campus.
Sixteen men's and women's teams will compete for the first six days of the tournament to claim the team titles, while a 64-singles player bracket and a 32-doubles team bracket will be played out in the final six days of competition for both men and women.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling (918) 631-GoTU (4688) or online at TulsaHurricane.com. Ticket prices for all-session tickets are $100 for an adult and $75 for youth, while single-session tickets are $10 for an adult and $8 for youth.
Tulsa has played host to the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships just one time in its 32 years in existence, in 2004, and this is just the third time both the men's and women's championships are being held at the same site. The previous two combined events were hosted by Stanford (2006) and Georgia (2007).
Seven different teams have won the last eight NCAA Men's Tennis Team Championships, including Stanford (2000), Georgia (2001, 2007), USC (2002), Illinois (2003), Baylor (2004), UCLA (2005) and Pepperdine (2006). On the women's side, Georgia Tech took home the team crown last year, while Stanford claimed five of the previous six titles, separated by Florida in 2003.
This season, Virginia owns the top Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranking on the men's side and will be fighting for their first-ever team title. The Cavaliers, however, will have some stiff competition in the likes of No. 2 Ohio State, who is also looking for their first title, and No. 5 Georgia, who will be fighting to take home their second title in as many years. Northwestern holds the highest team ranking on the women's side, but No. 2 Stanford has captured 15 titles in school history and No. 6 Georgia Tech will be looking for a repeat performance.
The Golden Hurricane men's tennis team is currently ranked ninth in the nation by the ITA, while the women's team is ranked 41st as both teams look to advance to the Final 16 for the first time in school history. TU's Arnau Brugues, a two-time All-American, has earned a No. 16 singles ranking, Andy Connelly and Ross Cunningham are ranked 28th in doubles, and Brugues and Ricardo Soriano are No. 41 in doubles.

Since the opening of the Donald W. Reynolds Center in 1998, Tulsa’s athletic facilities have undergone a major facelift. New facilities include the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, the Collins Family Softball Complex, the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium, the J. Bird Sr. Shell Nest, the Jack Zink Indoor Rowing Center, the Case Athletic Complex and major renovation to H.A. Chapman Stadium.
TU is 75th among national doctoral universities in U. S. News & World Report's 2012 edition of America's Best Colleges. TU's 2011 freshman class had a mean cumulative grade point average of 3.8, and 74 percent graduated in the top 10 percent of their high school classes. Their average ACT was 28.
