SKILLMAN, N.J. - Clifford Marsland, of the University of Tulsa men's tennis team, moved up two spots in the International Tennis Association poll from No. 85 to No. 83.

The senior went 3-0 during the Conference USA Championships last weekend at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Marsland defeated Alex Doleac of Southern Miss 6-1, 6-1 on Friday in the quarterfinals to give Tulsa a 3-0 lead and defeated Adam Gustafsson of Rice 6-2, 6-3 to give Tulsa a 2-0 lead in the semifinals. The Perth, Australia native gave Tulsa a 2-0 lead over No. 67 Tulane after defeating Sebastian Rey 6-2, 6-0 in the championship.

On the season, Marsland has posted an 18-6 singles record, including a 16-5 record in dual competition and a 15-4 record at the No. 2 singles position. He ranks tied for sixth in school history with 86 career singles wins and needs one win to tie fifth place.

Senior Japie De Klerk remained at No. 81 as he went 1-0 during the C-USA Championships. De Klerk clinched the match for Tulsa with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Paulo Alvarado of Southern Miss in the quarterfinals on Friday.

The Ashton, South Africa native has posted a 13-13 singles record this season, including an 12-9 record in dual competition and a 11-8 record at the No. 1 singles position.

Marsland and sophomore Dylan McCloskey moved up three spots to No. 24 as they went 2-0 in the C-USA Championships. The duo defeated Paulo Alvarado and Juan Escobar of Southern Miss 8-3 to give Tulsa an early lead in the doubles point and defeated Max Andrews and Adam Gustafsson of Rice 8-5 to give the Golden Hurricane a lead in the doubles point.

The duo has posted a 17-9 this season, including a 15-8 record at the No. 1 position and has won the last six matches. They have posted a 5-5 record against nationally ranked opponents and a 5-6 record against regionally

 

 

The Golden Hurricane fell three spots as a team from No. 42 to No. 45 after going 3-0 last week. Tulsa defeated Southern Miss, Rice and No. 67 Tulane with 4-0 scores in each match and has won its last five matches.

The Golden Hurricane (15-12) awaits its NCAA Tournament opponent after winning the 2014 Conference USA Men's Tennis Championship. The announcement is scheduled for Tuesday, April 29 at 4 p.m.
