Marsland named ITA Central Region Most Improved Senior of the Year

SKILLMAN, N.J. - Senior Clifford Marsland of the University of Tulsa men's tennis team was named the International Tennis Association Central Region Most Improved Senior of the Year, announced by the ITA on Tuesday.

Marsland has recorded 19-plus wins in each of the four seasons in singles and 12-plus wins in each of the four seasons in doubles.

The Perth, Australia native became the first men's tennis player in Conference USA history to be named to the All-Academic team in four seasons. Marsland has also been named to the All-C-USA Singles First Team and All-C-USA Doubles First Team for all four seasons. This season, Marsland was also named the C-USA Outstanding Singles Player of the Championship and C-USA Outstanding Doubles Team of the Championship with sophomore Dylan McCloskey.

Marsland ended his collegiate singles career with 87 wins, which is tied for the fifth most in school history and finished the season on a six-match winning streak.

In his freshman season, Marsland posted a 20-12 singles record, including a 16-8 record in dual competition. He also posted a 24-13 doubles record, including an 18-9 record in dual competition. He recorded his most singles wins in his sophomore season as he went 27-12, including 18-8 in dual competition and posted a 29-10 doubles record, including a 19-6 record in dual competition.

In his junior season, Marsland went 21-6 in singles, including a 17-4 record in dual competition and posted a 12-9 doubles record, including a 12-8 record in dual competition. This season, Marsland posted a 19-6 singles record, including a 17-5 record in dual competition and 17-10 doubles record, including a 15-9 record in dual competition.

Marsland and McCloskey compete in the NCAA Doubles Championships in Athens, Ga., from May 21-25. The duo has posted a 17-10 doubles record this season, including a 15-9 record at the No. 1 position.
