TULSA, Okla. -

Head Coach Vince Westbrook and juniors Clifford Marsland and Japie De Klerk earned 2013 ITA Central Region awards, the organization announced today.

Westbrook was named the ITA Central Region Head Coach of the Year, while Marsland won the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. De Klerk was named the Player to Watch in the region.

This marks the fourth time that Westbrook has been honored as the ITA Central Region Head Coach of the Year during his 22-year career. Westbrook guided the Golden Hurricane to a 16-8 record while facing one of the toughest schedules in the nation. In TU's 24 matches this season, the Hurricane faced a ranked foe in 21 of those matches, and ten teams ranked in the top-25. Tulsa made its eighth straight NCAA Championship appearance this season.

Marsland is only the second player in program history to earn the Arthur Ashe, Jr Award for Sportsmanship and Leadership, as Tom Murray won the award in 2004. He maintains a 3.514 GPA in exercise and sports science. He is a three-time C-USA all-academic selection and was named the C-USA Men's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2012. He is two-year letterwinner and six-time all-conference honoree, winning the award in both singles and doubles competition. He has a 20-5 overall record this season. Off the court, Marsland has volunteered at Sequoyah Elementary student taught at Thoreau Academy. Marsland was named to the Tulsa "Ultimate Team" for his efforts on and off the court.

"I feel humbled to receive an award named after Arthur Ashe, who was one of the greatest leaders in the history of the sport of tennis," Marsland said. "This is a real privilege and honor"

De Klerk is the fourth player in program history to be named the "Player to Watch" in the Central Region. De Klerk had a 21-11 record in singles play, with 10 of those wins coming against ranked opponents. He advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA All-American Championships in October, and was ranked as high as No. 34 in the ITA Rankings this season.

De Klerk and Marsland will compete in the 64-person NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Singles Championship will take place May 22-27 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill., following the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 16-21.
