TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa men's tennis team signed Daniel Santos to a national letter-of-intent, announced by Head Coach Vince Westbrook.

Santos, a native of Arequipa, Peru, is the No. 1 under-18 ranked player in Peru, and is ranked No. 26 in the world for players under 18 in the International Tennis Federation rankings. That position puts him in the top -five players in all of South America. He was also ranked No. 1 in all of South America for youth under 14 according to the COSAT South American Tennis Rankings.

Santos has appeared in two Grand Slam events during his young career in the 2012 French Open and Wimbledon, and was the runner-up at the Individual South American Tournament. In 2011, he won the Inca Bowl, a prestigious invitational in Peru, becoming only the second Peruvian player to win the tournament. Currently, he is ranked 1,829 in the Association of Tennis Professional world rankings and has a career best ranking of 1,611.

"Danny has been one of the best players in South America since he was 12, and is the best player in Peru," commented Head Coach Vince Westbrook. "Adding a player of his caliber solidifies our program for years to come. He was attracted to Tulsa not only because of our tennis program, but because of our reputation as a great academic school. He is considered one of the best recruits entering the collegiate ranks next fall, and adding him to our team will allow us to maintain the high level of tennis that we play here at The University of Tulsa."
