Sharon Allen is in her third season as an assistant coach for Tulsa, and her 19th year with first hand knowledge of Division I women's basketball. Her responsibilities include scouting opponents, recruiting, academic liaison, player and skill development, and community service projects. Prior to coming to TU, Allen served as the head coach at her high school alma mater in Culpeper, Va. from 2004-07. During her tenure, her teams improved on a yearly basis, and advanced to the post-season conference tournament all three seasons. Allen served as the head coach at Saint Louis University (1991-95) and Tennessee State (2003-04). She was also an assistant coach at George Washington (1986-87), Drake (1987-90), Kansas State (1990-91) and Mississippi State (1998-2003), and served as a graduate assistant for East Tennessee State (1984-86). Allen has been a part of six NCAA Tournament appearances, all at Mississippi State, where her primary responsibility was as the recruiting coordinator. While there, she recruited and coached two Kodak All-Americans in LaToya Thomas and Tan White, both of whom were WNBA first round draft picks. Allen played collegiately at East Tennessee State University for four years, where she earned her way into the 1,000-Point Club. She received her bachelor's degree in physical education from ETSU in 1981. |
