Shane Coffey is in his fifth season at The University of Tulsa.
In his first season, he helped coach a team that had earned just five wins in the previous year to a team that posted 13 wins, finished league play with an 8-8 record and a sixth-place league finish, which was the best since 2006.
In 2012-13, he helped the program take another big step forward as the Hurricane captured the Conference USA tournament title, advanced to the NCAA Tournament and posted the first non-losing record (17-17) since 2006.
During the 2013-14 season, TU posted a 12-16 overall record, including a 6-10 mark in Conference USA, but bounced back to tally the first winning record (18-14) since 2006 and advance to the WNIT Second Round during the 2014-15 season.
Before his appointment, Coffey served 11 seasons as the head girl’s basketball coach at Edmond Memorial High School. He compiled an overall 196-86 record while leading eight of his teams to the regional championship. Coffey’s teams advanced to the state quarterfinals six times (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2010 and 2011) and moved into the semifinals in four of those seasons.
Coffey was named the Regional Coach of the Year three times and twice was selected as the Mid-State Conference Coach of the Year. He helped 24 of his players earn college scholarships, including five at Division I schools.
Previously, Coffey served as the assistant boy’s basketball coach at Edmond Memorial High School for four years (1996-2000) and was the head boy’s coach at Edmond Central Middle School for two seasons (1994-96).
Coffey received his bachelor’s degree in social sciences and education from Oklahoma State in 1994.
He and his wife, Kerri, have a son, Hayden, and a daughter, Emersyn.
