Tulsa Women's Hoops Post 65-59 Victory Over UCF on Sunday

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa women's basketball team is off to a 3-0 start in Conference USA after posting a 65-59 victory over UCF on Sunday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. This is the best start for TU since joining the league, as well as the best start since Tulsa began the season with a 5-0 mark in the Western Athletic Conference during the 2002-03 season. The Golden Hurricane also moved to 7-9 overall, while the Knights fell to 7-9 on the year and 0-3 in C-USA.
Tulsa struggled in the first half, trailing by as many as 10 points at the 10:19 and 8:36 marks, but the Golden Hurricane rallied to pull within in two (27-25) with 2:44 remaining in the half. UCF took a 30-26 advantage into the break, but it was Tulsa that came out fired up in the second half, going on a 13-0 run. The Golden Hurricane never relinquished its lead, owning three 10-point leads in the game.
Larrissa Williams led the Tulsa attack with 17 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, and added two steals and three assists in the contest. Kara Vaughan also notched double-digit points with 11, while Tatum Beer turned in nine points and Chanel Johnson added eight.
Four Knights scored in double figures, including Marshay White (14), D'Nay Daniels (13), Tia Lewis (10) and Emma Cannon (10), while Lewis also pulled down a team-best 16 rebounds.
Tulsa will return to action on Friday, Jan. 18 at Marshall. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. (CST) at the Cam Henderson Center.
