Hattiesburg, Mississippi - Chanel Johnson led Tulsa with 11 points and Kara Vaughan had her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as TU dropped a 72-43 decision to Southern Miss on Sunday afternoon at the Reed Green Coliseum in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. TU fell to 6-16 on the season and 2-8 in Conference USA, while USM moved to 16-7 overall and 9-1 in the league.

The Golden Hurricane struggled in the first half, trailing by as many as 21 points, 28-7, at the 9:49 mark. TU then went on a 13-5 run spanning five minutes on the clock to pull to within 13 with just over two minutes to play and the Golden Eagles took a 39-24 advantage into the break.

The second half wasn't any easier on Tulsa, as Southern Miss climbed to a 30-point lead. TU shot just 26-percent from the field, seven-percent from behind the arc and 62-percent from the charity stripe. USM out-rebounded TU, 44-42, and had one more steal (13-12) than the Golden Hurricane in the contest. The Golden Hurricane also had foul trouble throughout the game, as Johnson, Chanice Scott and Larrissa Williams all fouled out of the contest.

The Golden Eagles were led by Pauline Love who posted 16 points, while Tanesha Washington added 13. Stephanie Helgeson scored eight points and added a team-high seven rebounds.

TU will return to action on Thursday, February 12, taking on UAB at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. The game is set to begin at 8:00 p.m. CST and will be broadcast live on Comcast Sports Southeast.
