Tulsa Records 83-50 Win Over Mid-America Christian in Exhibition Contest
Nov. 4, 2012
Tulsa, Oklahoma -
Two players posted double-doubles and four scored in double figures to lead the Tulsa women's basketball team to an 83-50 win over Mid-America Christian in an exhibition contest on Sunday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
"It was really a different game than our game against Rogers State," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said. "I didn't think we had a lot of energy, but we had energy in spurts. There were a couple times when we trapped on ball screens and that gave us energy, and obviously at the end of the first half when Taleya kept getting steals and converting on layups, that gave us some energy, but overall we didn't have great energy or play as clean as we did the first time. I think some individuals had some pretty good games, but I didn't think our defense was very good. We'll go back this week and work hard on our defensive rotation and defensive intensity so we can have energy at the start of the game and then the goal is to keep that energy the full 40 minutes."
Taleya Mayberry had a team-leading 27 points, but was one assist away from a double-double with nine. Tiffani Couisnard tallied a double-double with 13 points and a team-high 15 rebounds, while Loren McDaniel had 10 points and 10 boards. Kelsee Grovey also scored in double figures with 10 points and added a team-best seven steals. Mariah Turner had eight points and Ashley Clark scored six.
The Golden Hurricane led from the start and climbed to a game-high 39-point advantage with 2:13 left in the contest. TU shot 46-percent from the field, 42-percent from behind the arc and 56-percent (9-16) from the charity stripe. Tulsa scored 40 points in the paint, 31 points off turnovers and 17 second-chance points.
The Evangels were led by Kourtni Williams with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Tierra Brown had 10 points. MAC shot just 26-percent from the field, including 14-percent from three-point range, but scored 17 points from the free throw line after going 17-for-22.
Tulsa will open the regular season on Friday, November 9th against cross-town rival Oral Roberts. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Mabee Center on the ORU campus.
