Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa women's basketball team dropped a 64-53 decision to cross-town rival Oral Roberts in the Mayor's Cup on Friday night at the Mabee Center on the ORU campus. TU fell to 0-1 on the season, while the Golden Eagles moved to 1-0 overall.

"We struggled offensively all night long," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said. "We didn't get off great shots, but managed to shoot a decent percentage in the first half. In the second half we were just atrocious until the last seven minutes. Hopefully it is a good lesson for us, but we won't know until we take the court again on Monday."

Freshman Ashley Clark had a team-leading 12 points, while Taleya Mayberry added 10, and Tiffani Couisnard and Antoinet Webster had nine points in the contest. Loren McDaniel pulled down a team-best eight rebounds, Couisnard had seven and Mariah Turner added six boards.

The Hurricane shot 51-percent from the field in the first half, but went 8-for-32 for 25-percent in the second frame. Tulsa shot 31-percent from three-point range and 52-percent from the free throw line.

With eight lead changes and three tied scores the first half was tightly contested. TU had a four-point advantage at the 9:06 mark, but ORU climbed to an eight-point lead to take a 38-30 advantage at the break.

Both teams struggled to find the basket to start the second half as the Golden Eagles had a 10-3 run in the first seven minutes off the clock. Tulsa put together an 11-2 run from the 6:48 mark to just 1:04 remaining in the contest to pull within seven, but it was too late in the contest to pull off a come-from-behind win.

Kevi Luper had a team-best 23 points and three blocks, while Taylor Cooper had 19 points for the Golden Eagles. Savanna Buck pulled down 12 rebounds and Jaci Bigham had four steals. ORU shot 44-percent from the field, 46-percent from behind the arc and 53-percent from the charity stripe.

Tulsa will return to action against UALR on Monday, Nov. 12th. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
