Tulsa Captured 61-57 Win Over UTSA in Thanksgiving Classic

San Antonio, Texas - Tulsa captured a 61-57 victory over UTSA on Saturday afternoon in the Thanksgiving Classic at the UTSA Convocation Center in San Antonio, Texas. TU moved to 3-2 on the season, while UTSA fell to 1-5 on the year.
The Roadrunners got off to a quick start and took a 10-point lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first period, but senior forward Chivis Merriweather knocked down a three-pointer to give TU the boost they needed to fight back. Freshman Larrissa Williams put up two baskets to cut the lead to three with 8:04 on the clock, classmates Valerie Siemens netted a three-pointer and Destanie Gardner tallied her first basket on the day at the 2:05 mark to give Tulsa a 26-24 lead to go into the break.
Tulsa came out fired up in the second half and never relinquished the lead. The Golden Hurricane was led by senior All-America candidate Jillian Robbins who recorded 15 points and 10 boards on the day for her 49th double-double. Robbins also posted a team-best five steals, while Williams and freshman Teka Brooks had one block apiece. Sophomore Jamie Dreiling also scored in double figures adding 11 points, while freshman Valerie Siemens had nine points. Junior Dana Idlet finished with six points and pulled down 10 boards.
UTSA's Vivian Ewalefo tallied 16 points on the night, while Monica Gibbs added 11 points.
The Golden Hurricane will conclude its four-game road swing against on Florida State on Monday, November 27 beginning at 6:00 p.m. CST at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center in Tallahassee, Florida.
