San Antonio, Texas - Four Tulsa players scored in double figures to lead the Golden Hurricane to an 83-75 win over North Texas on Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center in San Antonio, Texas. TU moved to 2-2 on the season, while UNT fell to 1-5 overall.

Freshman Amanda Mason posted a personal-best and team-leading 18 points, followed closely by senior Kara Vaughan with 17. Freshman Loren McDaniel and senior Tatum Beer netted 16 and 10 points, respectively. McDaniel pulled down a team-best nine rebounds, while Beer recorded nine assists and three steals.

The Golden Hurricane shot 45-percent from the field, 33-percent from behind the arc and 54-percent from the free throw line. TU edged UNT, 48-47, in rebounding, while North Texas had the upper hand in steals (9-7) and both teams had 22 turnovers.

There were four tied scores, five lead changes and neither team had more than a two-possession lead in the first 20 minutes as TU took a 32-31 advantage into the break. Mason had a team-best nine points, while McDaniel added eight for just over half of the Golden Hurricane's first half points.

The Mean Green climbed to a game-high seven-point lead (45-38) with 15:27 left to play, but Tulsa went on a 16-8 run to take the lead (54-53) for the remainder of the game with 11:44 on the clock. The Golden Hurricane netted a game-high 15-point advantage with just under four minutes to play and recorded the eight-point victory.

North Texas was led by a trio of players in double figures, including Tamara Torru with 23 points, and 17 points each by Jasmine Godbolt and Denetra Kellum. Torru also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.

 

 

Tulsa will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 2nd against Drexel. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. Central in Philadelphia, Pa.
