Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa women's basketball team will open league play against UTEP on Wednesday, January 9th beginning at 7:00 pm at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the Reynolds Center ticket office.

The Hurricane, which has a 5-8 overall record, is led by Taleya Mayberry with 19.6 points per game and a team-high 52 assists and 37 steals. Freshman Kelsee Grovey nets 9.5 ppg, while Tiffani Couisnard averages 9.1 ppg and a team-best 8.5 rebounds per game, and has a team-leading 10 blocks. Loren McDaniel adds 7.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest.

Mayberry and Couisnard are ranked in the nation's top-125 in six categories according the latest NCAA statistics. Mayberry is 27th in points per game, 63rd in steals per game (2.85), 112th in assist-turnover ratio (1.44), 113th in free-throw percentage (80.5) and 115th in assists per game (4.0), while Couisnard is 107th in rebounds per game.

UTEP has a league-best 12-1 overall record going into conference play, including a seven-game winning streak spanning the entire month of December. The Miners are led by a trio of players averaging double-digit points, including Kayla Thornton with 14.4 ppg, Anete Steinberga with 13.2 ppg and Chrishauna Parker with 10.8 ppg. Thornton also has a team-high 8.5 rebounds per game, Parker has 51 assists, Destine LaFountain has 11 blocks, and Thornton and Kelli Willingham have 19 steals apiece.

This will be the 29th meeting between the two teams, as the Miners have an 18-10 advantage in the all-time series. UTEP has won the last 12 meetings, and 15 of the last 18.
